چکیده

Induction heating computer simulation is a powerful tool for process design and optimization, induction coil design, equipment selection, as well as education and business presentations. The authors share their vast experience in the practical use of computer simulation for different induction heating and heat treating processes. A comparison of simulation versus the experimental “trial and error” method is discussed. The importance of accurate description of material properties for obtaining adequate results of simulation is also discussed. A “Rule of Pyramid” strategy for efficient use of computer simulation is described. This rule states that a designer should begin process or coil development with a simple program and progressively move to the more complicated and time-consuming software. This method reduces the time and effort required for induction heating process design. Examples of computer simulation for induction heating process design are presented.

An Optimal Selection of Induction Heating Capacitance by Genetic Algorithm Considering Dissipation Loss Caused by ESR (TECHNICAL NOTE)

In design of a parallel resonant induction heating system, choosing a proper capacitancefor the resonant circuit is quite important. The capacitance affects the resonant frequency, outputpower, Q-factor, heating efficiency and power factor. In this paper, the role of equivalent seriesresistance (ESR) in the choice of capacitance is significantly recognized. Optimal value of resonancecapacitor i...

Practical Use of Computer Simulation for Advanced Induction Coil and Process Design

The experience, of the authors, in the development and practical use of different programs for 1-D and 2-D simulation of induction heating processes is presented in this paper. A comparison, of simulation versus experimental approach, is discussed. Some examples of 1-D and 2-D computer simulation are presented in this paper for “real world” problems. It’s shown that the accuracy, of computer si...

Sizing of a Packed Bed Storage for Solar Air Heating Systems (TECHNICAL NOTE)

Packed bed units generally, represent the most suitable storage units for air heating solar systems. In these systems the storage unit receives the heat from the collector during the collection period and discharges the heat to the building at the retrieval process. A method for sizing of packedbed storage in an air heating system is represented. The design is based on the K-S curves, which hav...

Exact Modeling and Simulation of Saturated Induction Motors with Broken Rotor Bars Fault using Winding Function Approach

Winding function method (WFM) provides a detailed and rather simple analytical modeling and simulation technique for analyzing performance of faulty squirrel-cage induction motors (SCIMs). Such analysis is mainly applicable for designing on-line fault diagnosis techniques. In this paper, WFM is extended to include variable degree of magnetic saturation by applying an appropriate air gap functio...

The Viability of Oil Extraction from Trinidad Tar Sands by Radio Frequency Heating: A Simulation Approach

Trinidad has tar sand resources of about 2 billion barrels of oil on land in the Parrylands/Guapo and Brighton areas. With an oil price of over USD 25 per barrel, the commercial extraction of oil from Trinidad tar sands is viable, but it requires a careful study. The relatively small extent of this tar sand (about 10,000 acres and with depths varying from surface to less than 500 feet) and with...
